Logon problem: driver related?

Hi all,
When I try to log in my pc, sometimes it takes forever to show the desktop. The indicator light keeps on blinking but nothing appears on the screen. I have to switch off the pc and switch on again to be able to log in. I have checked for virus (with Kaspersky antivirus and Antivir) and also for spywares (with Spybot S&D and Lavasoft Adaware). Could anyone give me a clue to this problem?

I have only two processes in startup: Kaspersky antivirus guard and Zone Alarm. My operating system is XP prof, sp2 and I have 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD.

when my internet is slow/not connected, or the network is down...it can take upwards of 5 minutes for my desktop to load up completely. are you on a stand alone computer, with regular internet?

Hi,
I checked as follows:
Start -> Run -> msconfig -> startup

And I see only two processes, Kaspersky antivirus and Zone alarm firewall.

Hi,
The problem appears both when I am online and offline, and the desktop icons never appear. I waited for a maximum of two hours..

Just noticed, I have Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller. While trying to update, I get an error message that the file ialmnt5.sys is missing. Any idea how can I proceed for diagnosing the problem?

Thanks. I have downloaded the file from the link you gave and updated Intel graphics controller. I still have the boot-problem in my pc anyway.

Go into task manager, there is more then Kaspersky anti* and Zone Alarm Firew* if those two progs are is just in your processes then your computers playing tricks on ya or screwed up badly :P
