Hi guys,

I used to use windows explorer in windows 98 to search a string in some text files. but since windows me I no longer be able to do it. I did use a windows 98 machine which connected to a network to find the files. how ever I no longer be able to access the same network again. I can't even be able to transfer files between windows 98 and windows 7 machines.

Is there any little free program that I can use to find the files contain a specific string under windows 7 ?

Thank you.

The SEARCH option should have that.At least Windows XP did.It was called A WORD OR PHRASE IN THE FILE.In Windows 7 it looks like this:

Sorry I am lost here. How do I search a file that contain a specific string? I have an old dbase program that use clipper to compile these little programs. it is a payroll package written from the earily 1990s. I want to change some parameter in these programs as the government change some critia in the payroll tax. It has over 200 little files and I can't look each file to find the specify program do the calculation. In old time windows 98 I just go search and type the string and the folder contain these files. win 98 will list all the files that contain the string. now I can't find a way to do it.
Thanks

Try this...to find "phrase in the file" type content:"phrase in the file" in the search box.

I really hate the way how they made this SEARCH function in Windows 7.
Windows XP rules!
