Looking at new MBs

I need a new mother board for my computer since I use it mostly for gaming and some of the newer games need a lot of VRAM and my current MB doesn't have an AGP slot which is weird since it's not an old computer.

I'm new to this kind of stuff so I need a little help. I have a couple of questions and I was hoping somebody could answer them:

If I bought a new motherboard would there be any chance of it not being compatable with my computer? I also want to know what a good one to buy would be. I need one with an 8x AGP slot and probably the most memory I'll have is 1GB.

You old computer is just cheap. Cheaper computer simply have onboard video, and no AGP...

VRAM is dependant on the video card, unless you have onboard video, which I wouldn't recomend if you plan to game...

The motherboard IS your computer ;P So what part do you mean wouldn't be comparable? Do you plan to use your old processor and RAM? We need specs if you do...

If I were you, I'd look into getting a new socket 939 with the Nforce4 chipset. Seeing as you don't have a video card you could use ATM, it would probably be best to go on and get the better stuff out there(PCI express rather than AGP) What's your budget? I'd reccomend something like Abit's AN8...

I don't want PCI express. The cards are way to expensive for me. I'm planning on buying new RAM and everything though. The video card isn't onboard it's just bad and came with the computer. I found this one and it looks like it would work great for what I need and fit my budget (I'm only 13)

PCIe isn't more expensive...sometime's it's cheaper than AGP! Um, and if it's not onboard then you'd have an AGP slot...

I just glaced at that mobo...it looks ok, but I'd reccomend a socket 939 if you wanted the Athlon.

Yeah yeah, I know they do...they obviously also had something before AGP. Just, PCI cards aren't what typically comes in a new computer...then you mentioned VMEM... Oh never mind :P
