I've been using an Athlon Winchester 3000+ (skt 939) for about 2 years now and noticed the prices have dropped tremendously! I want to upgrade my processor. I was looking at:

(single core FX-55 San diego.)
Or-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103544
(dual core X2 4800+ Toledo)
I don't really want to spend more than $300 - because I am also in the business of upgrading my video card. But that's another thread. I've considered going Conroe but I feel it's not necessary as I can still make an incredible machine with this technology and get a good deal in the process.
I also want to know if dual core is even worth anything - I'm guessing that the future will use more dual core computing (or do programs use that now?) But I'm not sure so I need to know whether to get a fast single core or a slightly slower dual-core.
Any thoughts/recommendations on those 2 processors would be most helpful. Thanks,
