Looking for a method to remote control a network computer

I have 2 laptops in my apartment... One is a 4 year old HP Pavilion running XP SP2.. The other is a new HP Pavilion running Vista. I have the two computers networked.

I need a program (or method) to do something very specific. I want to store all my media on the older laptop and park it in my entertainment center. What I need to be able to do is control (almost) all aspects of the other computer without touching it. I need it to be accessible at all times it is on.

I tried tightVNC, but it requires action from the older laptop to give the other laptop control of it. I would prefer a 'remote desktop' type software, but if command line is my only choice it will suffice.

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Try Symanted pcAnywhere from the Norton/Symantec website. You use it by installing it on both computers, getting the IP address from the Anywhere Host after setting it up (found in the Windows Taskbar), and then entering it on the remote computer and connect. It is adviseable to use your windows account to login :D. I use the software myself so I can answer quite a few questions about it. Glad to help!

well some free ones are, realvnc (good for local) or logmein.com (good for external stuff) both free
