Hello! I'm looking to put a better video card in my desk top.. I don't have a "great" machine.. currently I can play modern warfare 1, I'm thinking I want something that can black ops, atleast on the min requirements. Problem being.. I'm on a very tight budget, so maybe you can guys can point me towards something cheap and just good enough. I'm thinking NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, but I really don't know what I'm doing, lol.

Here's my specs currently.
2.13 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded

Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display adapter]
Radeon X1300/X1550 Series Secondary (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display adapter]

Also have 4gb RAM.
I used Belarc for this info and copied what I thought was most important.. hopefully I was right, haha.

Is this a custom built pc or a store bought one? What model of power supply are you using?

I bought this from someone, so I'm not fully sure, probably store bought.. I've already had to put a 500gb harddrive in it.. 80 just wasn't enough, lol.. how can I find out what power supply I'm using?

Open up the side of the case and look for a model number on the power supply itself.

Well it turns out after some looking around, I'm getting a new case and power supply, pretty much re-doing my computer slowly as I just got the new 500gb hardrive, lol.
I'm now looking at Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB, which I kind of think is good enough for most games, but not fully sure.. anyone have an idea?

I have a 4670 in another build which is pretty much the same. It's a nice card, but don't be expecting to be maxing out the settings in any current game.

I'm perfectly happy with running games on the lowest settings.. my worry is that it won't work with my motherboard.. knowing so little is actually starting to get annoying.

Do you have a make and model number on the computer anywhere? See any brand names? If not, look at your Motherboard and give use a make and model number, also.

Some pictures of the motherboard and internals might help to tell us what you can upgrade.

Honestly though, it's not worth upgrading an OEM machine beyond RAM/GPU/PSU - you might as well just build a new system.

Pop open the side of your case and look at your motherboard, you should see some long rectangle boxes that have slits down the middle of them and maybe even a tab at the end. There should be small white printed text around them saying something like PCIx16 or PCIEx16. Also if your going to upgrade your case and psu be sure to buy a psu that is made by a reliable manufacturer like Antec, Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, or Silver Stone. You also want to make sure that your PSU has PCIE power cables 6+2 perferably. If you plan on getting a big video card be sure that you get a case it will fit in also.
