Looking for Advice about Dell XPS 400 Desktop

Hey guys, New to the forum btw. I had some questions about my Dell desktop.

I have a dell XPS 400 with an added Nvidia Gforce 8800 video card which has been really good for gaming, which is what I primarily use the comp. for. I am curious though about upgrading my motherboard to something a little more powerful. I currently have the one that the computer came with which has a Intel Pentium R with 2.80 GHz. Come to think of it, is there a way to upgrade the processor without getting a whole new motherboard? I saw a post earlier (which is what led me to the forum in the firstplace) whith a similar question and th advice was to just build another tower desktop but I'm not too computer savy when it comes to that kind of action.

So basically looking for any help you guys can give me, or suggestions. Let me know fi you need more information I'd be glad to oblige.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there - Welcome to the forum.

Upgrading your processor is dependant on what type of motherboard you have and updating your motherboard is dependant on what case you have.
Since you have a Dell XPS 400 desktop with a Pentium R motherboard, i'm pretty sure you'll have to upgrade the motherboard if you want a CPU such as i7 or an i5. This is due to the socket-types; the "i" series of processors just wont accept the Pentium R motherboard I think...

If you want to reconsider and build a new PC, I think that would be a really good idea as it's enjoyable, a form of cool and exciting way to learn about computers and it's REALLY not difficult! Trust me!

Hope this helps

upgrade motherboard will not improve the proformance. Upgrade the CPU will.
XPS 400 with inte pentium D. You will be better to upgrade your CPU + Mobo (and RAM if you have money)
