Looking for first laptop

Going to be getting my first laptop here soon. I guess my main concern is getting talked into buying a piece of junk like if I went into best but knowing nothing. Looking to spend 7-800. What brands do you recommend ? Staying away from? What aspects make. Good laptop?

7-800 what? Dollars?

Most brands are fine so don't worry about that but what are you going to use this laptop for?
 
If you give us some information as to what you plan to do with this laptop we could make some recommendations as to what features to look for. Do you only want to do email and surf the web? Do you want to game on it? Is it for business apps only (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc...)?

How long do you need the battery to last? How large of a screen do you want? Do you need lots of data storage capability?

If you're talking $7-800 then you should be able to buy a decent laptop given that budget.

Sorry for lack of info: $700-800. Mainly for browsing the web. Use of word and outlook (email). Screen not huge but not small( medium sized screen). No PC game use just conquer club type stuff (online risk).
