Looking for good quality online or downloadable Voice recording software

Can anyone recommend online or downloadable voice recording software with excellent quality?

I tried one called Vocaroo, but the playback sounding like we were talking in a tunnel and had a terrible echo. Also i need one where when finished I can download it into the form of either an MP3 or WAV file.

If that is not possible, is there online or downloadable editing software to correct the way audio sounds?

It seems to me that I have, lying around here somewhere, a CD called Audacity. But you can download it from online at their website (of the same name). I don't know about the quality, but I've been happy with what I've experienced with it. It might just be worth checking out.

I have also used that software and had no issues. Not professional top of the line stuff but a quality program.
