Looking for Laptop, are they really $500 or am I about to be disappointed?

Ok so I have not looked at laptop prices in probably 10 years and they were all close to $2K back then, but I just went on BestBuy and they were selling for under $700.

I see MacBook’s are still over a grand, but my son-in-law has one and he is always having trouble. I haven’t talked to him about it and only hear him complaining to my daughter all the time wanting to buy a new one.

What should I be looking for? I want a good fast computer with a large screen and lots of memory. I don’t play games, but I use Sketchup, Photo and Video editors.

I'd look at a Dell Latitude. Those are the higher up laptops for business and should work well. If you have issues it would be operator error/malware/ADware, etc.

If you buy new I would run PCdecrapifier.

Thanks Agent Smith, I had a Dell Latitude supplied by my employer before I retired this year. I don’t remember which model it was, but it was pretty reliable. I did have 3 laptops at work go belly up and they just replaced them with different models, but all were Dells. I had to sign for it and they said it was worth $2500 so I’m delighted that I don’t have to spend that much. I do remember having to upgrade the memory on one out of my own pocket although I can’t remember what that cost me.

I really miss not having a decent Laptop since I retired and it was so nice having my employer supplying them for free the last 10 years and also maintaining them. I never thought I would need one at home because I had so many desktops and at least I could fix the desktops, but never thought I’d be able to fix a laptop.
