Looking for new monitor

I'm looking for a new monitor and I think HDMI has the best video, am I correct?

So what monitor should I get? I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128bit video card I just got last week. Right now I'm running a 17" LCD with a VGA plug in. Works fine but is 4 years old or over.

How long do they last anyway?

I'd like to get something bigger and whether it should be wide screen. Give me your experiences and thanks.

Oh yeah, my budget. Say between $100-$200?

Thanks for the tip so I'll go DVI then. The monitor looks really nice but I don't know that's gonna be too big on my desktop. I got out my measuring tape and held it in front of me diagonally. From where I sit I can touch my monitor, am I too close to it?

You probably should be about 2 feet away if you have 17" monitor. The bigger the monitor, the farther away you should be. I have a 27" monitor and its about 2.5-3 feet away.

I would stay away from acer.

Acer as a whole should be avoided for anything. And I say that as a current and long time acer owner.

I've had many Acer monitors in my lifetime and not one issue. I also get Acer monitors for my clients when they need them. Still no issues.

So your comment is invalid.

Sure. You and your clients may be fine with horrid colour reproduction and almost no menu options, and literally only 1 menu language. I however find it low quality that I get all of these and a few other features from a $80 dell, albeit at a lower resolution.

No menu options huh... lol. I have an S220hql as my monitor I use to test clients computers and when I build computers for clients. It has more than enough menu options.

I don;t know about that model. But with the g226hql, there is only 1 language (english), 1 colour option (stock), and a backlight option that doesn't really change the brightness a noticeable amount going from 0 to 100.
Maybe they make a decent upper end product. MAYBE. But I would also be willing to bet you would get better quality at a lower price with a Dell or Asus. Personally, I still use my Dell 720p as my primary monitor as I do not feel like I should have to deal with crap colors, especially in games, and I should not have to break out a translator or dictionary to be able to change a setting.

The monitor I picked has a 2ms response time and very favorable reviews.

You want me to buy a 7ms monitor ??

Acer is a good monitor. Used and sold lots of them. Using one now. Of all the ones I have bought since 2008, as far back as I keep receipts. A lot of monitors. I have only had one go that went dead. Usually a pretty good monitor for the money. If I don't buy a Acer I usually get a LG or Samsung.

I have the 24" asus listed earlier. They make a very nice product. Right now I am pondering getting a second one for dual screens.

I use the computer mainly for gaming and it has exceeded my expectations.
