Hey I'm looking to build a portable rig to use when I DJ. I'm trying to find something as small and as light as possible, doesn't need to be anything special, just be able to hold the following:

ATX mobo (reusing from an old pc)
CD drive
HD slot
single PCI slot for my soundcard
1 GB of RAM
power supply

TIA!

as in baby ATX?

i dont have one of those and i dont want to buy all new stuff when i already have the components so im looking for the next best thing

i appreciate the replies guys, but maybe i was misunderstood...

i plan on building a portable pc rig using the ATX modo that i already have, i dont want to buy any additional hardware, other than the case

if somebody knows of a lightweight, compact case, let me know

thanks!

Well the most compact you are gonna get is with a skinnier case, but then for that you need low profile cards and stuff, atx is made for bigger cases, that is why they came out with micro atx. However you can still get a light case, not super compact but more compact then some, here is one, lightweight aluminum and it is a "atx mini tower" so you won't get much smaller either.

ok so my plan was to upgrade my home pc, take the old parts from that and use them to make my mobile rig...

but i decided with the parts i found today i could combine the two to make a gaming/home pc that i can take with me when i dj etc, opinions on everything i'm considering would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

comes with a 400w ps... will this be enough??

HD:

so like i said this seems like it should work well for the lite gaming, general computing i do normally, have good upgradability (AM2, PCI-e, DDR2 800, etc)

let me know what you guys think, thanks!

Looks good, the psu has 20amps on the 12v rail, might not cut it. Try looking for one on newegg.

edit: one thing i noticed, for the onboard sound, in order to use anything more than 2.0 speaker system, you'll have to add a pci card which connects to your motherboard. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, however, you only have 4 expansion slots on your case, so that's up to you to decide.

Ya it will be ok, but since your gonna do some gaming, try and find that case with no psu and go for a good brand like antec, or enermax. Good thing about that case though it will accept standard atx psu's most micro atx ones are crap.
Here is a 350 watt antec, and

so that 350w is better than the 400w that comes with the case? ps's are one thing i have no clue about... please explain, thanks!

Ya wattage for a power supply isn't everything. First off you normally want dual 12v rails, and you want plenty of amps per rail. I am no way an expert on psus, but there are some other people here who can explain better. Also antec is one of the best psu companies, they make consistent high quality psu's that will last, ultra's psu's are pretty good but not quite as good.

some1 said 20amps on the 12v rail might not be enough, but the antec one that was suggested only has 10amps on one and 15amps on the other

Its only got 1 12v rail, the antec has 2

G skill is generally pretty good ram, and if you need to cut your budget by like $40 that is a good place to do it, if not go with the ddr2 800
