looking for printer

you're gonna end up with a decent printer, with a p.o.s. scanner permanently attached to it.

For that money you could get an entry level laser printer.

What I always do when buying a printer is look at the few I like and see how much ink costs. Then I buy the one that will cost me the least in the long run on multiple ink cartriges (online for cheaper of course) even if the printer is a little more expensive.

I try and get HP if I can, but sometiems that's not always the case.

If you're doing any sort of printing at all, stay away from that thingand any other printer that uses those cartridges like a very contagious plague! At that low of cost, HP is not going to be a good way to go, they will gouge you on the ink. Look for either a Canon or Epson (either will be fine) and weigh the options there accordingly. One clarifying question, how many pages per week do you plan on printing?

not really sure on how many pages. Do i bit for school so i'd say rough maybe 10 per week. Looking for one were ink won't be too costly int he long run. It doesn't have to be hp. Just for aorund AU$100.
Thanks

OK, that C4180 isn't too bad, if you can get it for that price to stay low... Otherwise look at an Epson, the HP's will cost you waaay more in the long run at that price range.

You should look for a printer that has it's printer head on the ink cartridges.

I am on my fourth printer now because the other three have dead or partly dead printer head. And to get a new printer head is just not worth it since you can just get a new printer with a little more money.

Especially if your not going to print allot. the printer head is going to be dead if you leave it unused for a while.

I never used refills on the first three printer but on the one i have now i do use it. The refills are super cheap and you don't have to worry about dead printer head since you can just get a new ink cartridge if the one you have is not working anymore.

The printheads on that machine are in the printer, but if you take out the cartridges and put them in a ziploc bag or something it should help when you're not using the printer for awhile (say when you go home for the summers...). Although the best option is to just remember to print out a one-page e-mail or something every week or something along those lines. Just enough so that the ink stays moving and can't clog the printheads or solidify.

ok thanks
Could you suggest any that have the heads on the cartridges for around the price range and not cost to much in long run. Otherwise i might go with that one and make sure to print so they don't clog up.

I would just go with that one and make sure to print. Epson usually has the cheapest cost per page, the only one that comes closest is Canon, but they also have the printheads separate from the cartridge. Canon puts their printheads into a replaceable carriage.
