Looking into an Eee 1000HE, how bad is the integrated graphics?

Just go my tax refund, wife says it's okay to buy a sub $400 netbook. I am looking at the Asus Eee 1000HE. I will be surfing the web and editing papers at school on it. I would also like to play old games such as doom and AOE2 (with an external mouse of course), will this be possible? Portability and web surfing are my foremost concern, so a full size laptop won't do. Would this Netbook suit my needs, or you recommend a different Netbook (or no netbook at all). Should I wait a year till they move away from the Intel 945 graphics card, or will this still be current for a couple of years?

Lucky boy! :P

My laptop has Intel 945GM, I am assuming they are pretty comparable - if not someone please correct me - and it plays AOE2 and other games, even Sims2, Rollercoaster Tycoon3.

I would imagine that the graphics are on a par with the processor etc, so if the processor is upto it the graphics will too. But I am not an expert when it comes to graphics cards and games...

Hope that helps, Doug.

I have a 900HA with the same chipset, and yes, those games will play perfectly fine. Hell, I play Halo and FEAR on my EEE :D

Unless you want to play the newer games you can go ahead with the 1000HE, they are great for light gaming and everyday tasks.
