Looking to build a computer but can't control myself....

My g/f needs a computer but every time I look to build one I end up spending $1k and she doesn't need that. Basically I'm enlisting you all to give me opinions as to what should make up this build. I already have a sound card, keyboard, mouse, speakers... from changing my mind so much with my pc and changing things out.

What I do need however:

Mobo + Processor - She only needs it for email and basic stuff so I don't need a overly powerful combo here

Case - Looking for something with enough room where it doesn't look cluttered and I'm not trying to jam 10 lbs of stuff into a 5 lbs bag

Everything else I think I can deal with. My main concern is that I have trouble figuring out which processor will work well with which mobo. And subsequently, which case will house everything the best. Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Looks good but i would go for a 500 watts power supply like the xclio goodpower 500watts and if you can go for Intel

I don't much get into the whole intel vs amd thing. I just go with AMD since it's all I've ever really owned. Unless you count the computers I had throughout high school and before that which is going on ten years ago. If you could suggest something from intel you think would be better for the buck by all means, I'm open to suggestions. This'll be the first computer I have actually built from the ground up so I'm flexible to options :)

I went with your mobo Thatguy but I have a ? about the PSU. The ones putting out 500 watts or so are only ten dollars or so cheaper so is it really worth it to save $10? I figured I could use the extra power if I ever wanted to upgrade her computer. THoughts?

You're looking at the wrong ones, those 3 are more than enough for that system

Well, she'll only be using the computer for storing of pictures and such of family and friends, that type of deal. I don't see her using all of the 250 but only God knows for sure I guess. Course, by the time she fills that up the cost of storage space will be down to the point where I can just throw another in. I think I'll just go w/ the 250 and throw the extra cash towards something else :D

Amm... A approx. $700 set-up, I personally will get:
E2180 $92, if you can slightly OC for her, it will out perform AMD x2 4400
GA-P35-DS3L $95
Seagate 500GB 16MB cache ST3500630AS $120. Actually u can choose the $150 one, that one seems more relible.
2 x 1GB DDR2 800 RAM, any relible brand depends on offer. e.g. CORSAIR XMS2 $65
Sapphire 2600XT 256MB $100, choosing ATI simply because it is HDCP ready. As far as ur GF not gaming, not really matter to get 2600XT/ 8600GT.
DVD buner, any with SATA $32. I currently using LG.
PSU, any of those u chosen is fine. $50
Case. assuming $50. But you can choose some more expensive.
Windows Vista Home Premium $120
