Looking to build a new PC...

First off, I haven't been shopping for internal PC parts in like 4 years. So I'm a bit behind.

I already have a great video card already(Radeon HD6970), and have no intentions of ever crossfiring more than 2 video cards on my new Mobo... but as I check out all the top MOBOs on the market, they all seem to have 3-4 slots for video...

I really want to get a great future proof board (looking mainly at x79's), but when I throw $300+ down on a new board, How much of a premium am I paying for those 2 video slots that i'll likely never use?

The boards I'm looking at are:
- ASUS Rampage IV Extreme
- GIGABYTE G1.Assassin 2
- ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z

I use the computer for everything from HD gaming and bluray to the TV, to some pretty intense multitasking.

me personally id get the
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme
because of the socket mostly id think, AM3 has backwards compatibilty with AM2/AM2+ and runs X6 etc

Most of the premium your paying for a upperend board is not the extra PCIe slots. Some of it is if the board has 8X/8X or 18X/16X in C/F or SLI. But most of it is because its a higher quality board. Better power phase setup/ better mosfets/ more copper in the board/better cooling/ more bios features and so on.
