this is clearly a dell, and will run about 2 grand.... i may also go with 4 gb of ram instead of 3....

i need some advise with this...its seams reasonable

Well simply said, if you are willing to go and build yourself you would end up saving a fair bit of money.

And although I am not sure about this, Physics cards aren't that amazing with todays game.

also, what is the pros of having a duel graphics card? i dont understand and would like some answers as far as what i need for gaming

2 grand? OVERPRICED!

Dual graphic cards - For nVidia cards, called SLi (scalable link interface), and ATi - CrossFire, using 2/3 cards as one. You'd think you get double the speed n' everything wouldn't you? Nope. You'd get from a 10-33% increase in overall performance. Either way, you just can't add up the memory or speeds.

I'd go custom if I were you. 2 grand is just way overpriced.

Like pretty much everyone else said, I would build a gaming system yourself for MUCH less money. I would also go for only one video card, as IMO going with SLi is a waste and money pit. Also, scrap the physics card. In today's games, it probably wouldn't do much in terms of helping your video card and cpu take a load off. Pretty sure most games don't employ the use of physics cards anyway.

When building your own system, not only does it cost a hell of a lost less, you also know all the parts in your system very well and upgrading your system later is effortless.

i am also trying to future proof my rig....but thanks for the advise. So most would not go with the duel graphics cards?

after looking into it, i believe you to be right... dell and alienware and all those other companies are so expensive!

what does everyone think of the company cyber power pc? http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

they have a list of components and you build your own pc and they build it for you....i feel this is a good start but am weary....

ps. Thanks for alll the help so far!

1. Don’t buy Dell. They are among the worst manufacturers in existence.

2. Go custom. You can build your own computer for 1/2 the cost.

3. That video card is marginal. Although it will play most current games it will not be able to play future games on all max settings.

4. There is no reason to get XP Pro for a gaming comp. Go XP Home 64 bit.

5. That physics accelerator is a complete waste of money. It only works with games designed to make use of it, and at the moment you can count the number of games designed to make use of it on a single hand.

6. 667 MHz. RAM is not good enough for higher end gaming. I would go with a minimal of 800 MHz. RAM. However keep in mind the current standard for gaming rigs is 1066 MHz.

Overall I would give that rig a 3 out of 5 with 3 being the absolute minimal required to play most high end games.

RAM speed doesn't really matter that much, AFAIK the (marginal) performance gain between DDR2 800 and 1066 isn't enough to justify the price difference, though I do agree that DDR2 667 won't really do... Also, for a gaming system you'd better off getting Vista (Home Basic at min.) rather than XP, for a good variety of reasons.

Thank you for the input!

what about this setup? I can build it for about 1600, which is 300 CHEAPER than the dell!

sorry for the double post, but also...with this setup what does everyone think is an area that i could upgrade, or the weakest link of the setup? Thanks again!

no thanks, i am not looking to buy a used computer.....but what does everyone think of the setup i just showed?

what is the weakness of this model rig?

Saving money aside, I would get 4GB (2x2) memory with that setup.

However, if you are building, I would change most every component listed for better price/performance. Let me know if you are interested.

What are the reasons to go with Vista as opposed to XP Pro? The same reasons apply for video editing and burning dvd's? I am researching to build my own computer and would like to know before I start purchasing parts. Thanks for any info.

Basically Vista is more secure, I think. If your going to go with 4gb ram then you will obviously need 64bit OS.

Vista for gaming (and anything else on a high-end computer), following reasons:
-DX10
-Security
-Better looks
-Most of the compatibility/whatnot issues/annoyances have been fixed
-Better support, "future-proofing"
-And the list goes on

Well, pretty much only reason to go with XP instead of Vista would be performance issues, but in case of the computer being built here that wouldn't really matter...

^^ There's a better explanation. I couldnt get the words to come out of my mouth and to the keyboard. LOL
