Looking to do a low cost upgrade

Don't skimp on the power supply.... make sure you get the right mainboard connector 20 or 24 pins, some 24 pin supplies will also fit 20 pin mainboards.

The power supplies that have a 20+4 power connector will those work with a 24 pin mobo?

Yes, it just means the extra 4 pins are detachable for use on a 20 pin mobo.

Ok, sweet I'm not to sure how much I have to send (It depends on my next paycheck). But if I have the money I'm gonna get a better power supply.

I never thought of that, do you know that for a fact that the 20 pin and the additional 4 pin connector connects into the new 24 pin mainboard connector.

I know you can take a 24 pin power supply connector and connect it up to a 20 pin mainboard. The 24 pin connector has a "20 pin" mark. The other 4 pins hang over

yeah, it will work. a 20+4 pin connector is basically a 20pin connector and a 4 pin connector with a little clip on it, allowing you to connect them together or split them apart.

so you are saying that the 20 + 4 that was originally made for a 20 pin mainboard and a seperate 4 pin mainboard connect, both of these together go into the new 24 pin connector...you know that for a fact ?

No, the 4-pin ATX12V connector is completely different to what's meant by a 20+4 pin connector, which looks like this:

Sorry about the large image, but as you can see, the extra 4-pins detach so that you can use it on either 20 or 24pin motherboards
