Loosing HD space

Hey,

I'm new here mainly needing help, I have a problem,

I seem to be loosing HD space, I restarted my computer, nothing had been downloaded, and I lost 60 megabytes, One time when all i was doing was playing a game, I lost 500 megs, I keep loosing space even tho i'm not downloading/doing anything to cause this.
It doesn't loose space slowly, It just does it in 1 hit it seems, I think :?

Help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Hello and Welcome to Computer Forum!

Please follow the steps below and tell me if you regain any disk space.

Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows [tab]
The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:
CCleanerA.png

Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit
 
Yes I am running vista, And I'll do this CC cleaner tonight, Thanks!

EDIT:

It cleared up 5 gb's HOORAY!, But there were more options selected by default under system that I unselected since you didn't tell me to select them ( Always playing it safe :) )
I also couldn't find the option " Only delete files older than 48 hrs "
Maby I'm using newer version?

No problem, as a precaution you can complete the instructions in the sticky and post it here if you'd like.
 
ok, another thing that vista does is to make a shadow copy every time you edit a file. This feature can be turned off if you are concerned about disk space.

There is an option to switch this off in control panel and backup settings. I would post it up except I'm on my netbook (running linux).

Will look it up when I'm back on my PC if you want.

i had same problem and had lost 40GB of HDD space.
i used tuneup utilities 2009 to delete unnecessary files and backups and gained a lot of space.
also running disk cleaning utilities will erase the possible error reports files which occupy space in Gigabytes
try this and respond..........!!

Will I get the same result by ticking:

Clipboard
Memory Dumps
Chkdsk File Fragments
Windows Log Files
Windows Error reporting

In CCleaner?
 
its upto u to try.
vista stack up a lot of "per user error report files", which in my system occupied space in GB.
also every time u install a software, a restore point is created, which also occupy considerable space.
i havent use c clean, so i cant predict about it.
i used tuneup utilities 2009 to clean up and maintain my system.
a perfect software for every thing maintainance of ur computer(startup manager, registry defragger, disk defragger, one click maintainance, reg editor, process manager and a lot). give it a try.
 
forgot one thing,
tune up doesnt delete all restore points.it leave the last restore point intact, so that u dont have to worry.
 
Wow I've always wondered why the hell my laptop did this.

It must be because it has Vista. Thanks, I'll look into stopping this. I went from 190 gbs to 166 gb in a matter of a few months (today it stands at 163) and I know I have yet to download any big apps aside from Itunes and Firefox and open office. :)

I do write and save a lot of files, but that does not commensurate with the amount of gbs I'm loosing.

Your logfile appears to be clean, however your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
    It should have next icon next to it:
    javaicon.gif

    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:
