Loss of Keyboard during installation? HELP!

Ok im fairly good on computers. I can repair and rebuild them but this has got me stumped!

I have a Dell Dimension 9150.
It had Hard Drive failure when I got it off someone. Anyway, I replaced tha Hard Drive with a new one.
As I didnt have the Dell OEM XP installation disc or Licence as a temporary messure I installed my Partners Windows Vista from her Dell laptop. Obviously cos her licence is registered to her Dell Laptop I was on a time trial basis.
Anyway, I bought a Dell Windows XP Pro Installation CD with a Dell XP Pro Licence.
Im coming to install it and I lose use of my keyboard.

Basically I can use the keyboard when selecting F12 to select Boot option and can use it when selecting what boot device. As soon as it loads up the files reading for install my keyboard freezes so that when it comes to the "Windows Setep" I cant go any firther.

Any idea of what is causing this?

Its a USB Keyboard & Mouse (No PS/2 socket available)

Then I had a little bit of a brainstorm........

I had to buy a Dell XP Pro installation disc with a new licence obviously cos I didnt have one and the licence has never been registered.

On the package for the XP Disc it says Version 2002 HOWEVER in the BIOS System Info it says :
System = Dell DXP051
BIOS Version = A02 (10/28/05) (October 28th 2005)

When you hit any key to boot the CD you get the Blue Screen that says at the bottom : SETUP IS LOADING FILES :
During the loading it loads a Keyboard & Mouse driver.

So, my possible conclusion is : The drivers it is installing from the disc is a driver that isnt compatible with the Motherboard since the disc was version 2002 & the PC was made in 2005.

Would you say im right or am I talking absolute rubbish?

Its driving me nuts! :good:

Your talking rubbish there. Try a different usb keyboard since you don't have any ps2 ports available. Your not using a wireless keyboard by chance are you?

Hi there, I have used 2 different USB keyboards and I still get the same result and im not using a wireless keyboard.

It will do the Dell Vista installation no problem but wont the Dell XP.

I reckon im gonna have to call Dell Support and see if they can suggest anything.
