Lost File Retrieval

I do some of my academic work with students via e-mail. One of my students just sent me a WORD file. I spent over an hour correcting and analyzing it carefully. Throughout the process I had saved it a handful of times. I was getting ready to attach the file and send it back when I realized that I can't locate the file anywhere. Can someone please suggest a way that I could quickly retrieve the lost file? Of course the original uncorrected version is still attached to my student's original e-mail in my inbox. However, that one does me no good! I am using Windows XP and Office Word 2003. Thanks!

Did you click on SAVE AS and save it to a specific folder or just click on SAVE?

What email client are you using or is it webbased like yahoo, msn, gmail? Check the attached file to make sure it does't have your new fixes or if its the original file before the fixes.

Already checked and it doesn't. I know from experience that if I correct a saved file on my pc, the attached file also gets corrected. The attached file has not been modified at all. I am using outlook express.

If that was the last file that you opened, or one of, go to word, click file and it has the most recently opened files.

See if it is there (the modified one), if it is, save as and save it somewhere you know
