Lost Files : Please Can You Help???

I had problems logging into my computer yesterday.

I went ahead and took it to a technician in town, who said he could not figure out what the problem was.

When I was leaving, he had mentioned that if I wanted to, I could try putting windows xp back in. He said to go into install windows, and then click on "Format NTFS (Quick).

I went ahead and did as he said, everything is working fine now, but all of my files are gone. Everything.

I called him today and he said sorry, he forgot to tell me to take all my files out first.

So this is where I am. A new windows, and no files to go on. I had business files and my son has school files, plus of course photos galore.

There must be a way to get ahold of these again. I have tried restoring back a date, but of course all my past info is gone.

I'm looking on line and have found http://www.bitmart.net/r2k.shtml which states that hard drive format files can be restored. I tried this one as a sample download, but I'm not seeing any old files, unless they unlock something afterwords.

I'm not sure, but I think I need a data recovery program. What I'm also not sure of if this is at all possible.

Can someone Please help me, I have so many files and photos of my dog (which passed away in the fall), and other types of important info that I really really need to get back if I can.

basically you're only option is to take it somewhere that recovers information off formatted drives, even then no guarantees cause you installed somethng else over top of the old information so you're likely screwed, but like I said, your only chance is to take it somewhere and hope they can do it, it'll run a couple hundred bucks too

Wow, that hurts. The techie sounded like an "oops, i did it again" no relation to the singer type of guy. Oh, yea format it, it'll work like a charm. Oh, and i forgot to tell you...

There are many softwares claiming to recover them along with the one you listed and many more if you google, i myself have never tried any and dont know if they work or not. In my opinion, its all lost.

But, try and go through google and try all the programs it can find and putout that you are willing to use.

Sounds like grounds for a lawsuit if you ask me...

I tried this program for myself, and was able to recover SOME files from my previous windows installation, including some old university coursework documents. It's worth a try, and you can specify what types of files (eg. .doc, .jpg) to recover.

I wish you the best of luck :)

the professional guys supposedly can get much better results though but for a much larger price tag, btw in the future backup your important data, I've got all my pics on two computers, my mp3, and on occasion I burn them to disk
