Lost sound with new videocard??

i just installed my new video card (visiontek HD 2600 xt - PCI-e) and all went well except now i have no sound output, input or anything. when i go into control panel the audio output device is listed as "ATI HD Audio rear output". there are no other options to select from anymore either. im thinking it my be my PSU as it is only 300w, but is it possible that everything else would work fine and power wouldnt be supplied to just one piece of hardware? actually...i have onboard sound come to think of it lol. so i really dont know what the prob could be.

Go into your Bios and make sure that your onboard sound is still selected. And 300watts for a 2600 is pushing it big time. I would think that would need to be your next upgrade.

It sounds like the onboard audio of the 2600XT is overriding your onboard sound. Go into the device manager and disable the ATI HD audio.

ive already tried that but that just left me with no audio devices to select

ok, i just checked and it was set to auto and i put it as enable just to see and its still the same. and ya i know about the 300w, i was suprised when the comp actually booted up after i installed it.

Have you tried reloading the drivers that came with your motherboard? And if you have not already done so, go to your motherboards website and download the newest drivers. ATI might have over written your drivers and if so, you will need to reload the drivers for it.

If you can, just download the audio drivers, since the rest of your system seems to be running fine, I would not mess with the other drivers.

yea thats what i was thinking, the drivers for your vid card overwrote the drives for the mobo, just go to their website and search for drivers and download

I doubt it overwrote it. Most likely it's just a conflict with the 2. Just for a heads up, the new ATI drivers for my HD3850 didn't end well. (BSOD, crash)... Switched to a slightly older driver, it's a charm.

It's OK. It'd be highly unlikely anyways :D And if he didn't see any ! marks in the Device Manager, the drivers were probably installed :P

ok ok ok, i fixed the prob! I HAVE SOUND!.....but im not sure what i did aha, i changed a bunch of stuff and then after a while i just checked the output devices again and the other options were there and it worked, i think it might have been enabling onboard sound in the BIOS instead of having it set to auto. soo ty very much to the person who suggested that
