My harddisk sholud have 40GB of space but the total of the space comes out to be 37.24GB.What happened to the rest?How can I reclaim it?

When you get a hardrive it's not neccecaraly a perfect 40gb hardrive...It could be bigger or smaller than the actual size of what it says....It's just been rounded off, so they say 40GB's
