lots of problems (heating CD drive Slow)

Hey, im having lots of problems here they are

1. CD/DVD drive wont start read cds i kno its working cuz if theres a cd in my drive while im restarting it tries to boot off it

2. i use to have the stock cpu cooling then i went and got the zalman 9500 and some arctic silver past and my cpu is at 47c idle before with stock it was 48-49

3. when i get past the windows xp loading it turns to a black screen and takes a while to load the login then when i log in it takes even longer to load personal settings.

When installing the Zalman model cpu cooler did you first clean off the original thermal compound remaining? If you simply applied Artic Silver and started running the system immediately the cpu temps will go right up. After running the system after first using AS5 you shut down after a few hours there to allow the Artic Silver to cool and then start bonding correctly. After several hours of being off the new application will adhere more over a period of several days of normal usage.

If you just installed the one or more optical drives(cd/dvd) check the jumper setting on the rear of the drive casing to see if they are set correctly. A failure to read off of drives can usually be from this. The delay you are seeing while Windows is loading is most likely due to the difficulty in detecting the drive properly due to this.
 
ye i did remove the stock paste but i dont understand what u mean about the drive cuz it worked fine untill 3 days ago about the same time windows went to hell

If your drive was working normal at that time then the jumper is set correctly. What is set as the first boot device in the bios itself? If you have it set for cd rom with the 2nd being the hard drive try setting the first to hard drive and disable the rest. Then if you still see the same stall when Windows loads try reducing startup with the msconfig utility. If you added a new program just prior to changing to the Zalman that may be causing a driver conflict.

The system file checker can help at times to see if any system files have been damaged or are now missing. Sometimes Windows gets a bug from losing partition or master boot record information. Besides running "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt for the system file checker there run the msconfig or boot in safe mode to see if Windows still sees the lag. If the desktop comes up slow you have a Windows or software problem to repair.
