Loud continuous beep/tone on shutdown

Hello everybody,

I have an odd problem that just cropped up out of the blue. Whenever I turn off my computer, the green power light stays lit (although dimmer) and the computer emits a loud continuous "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." I tried unplugging it, turning off the power supply and even pulling out the CMOS battery, all to no avail (which boggles my mind, how is that even physically possible?)

It couldn't be a POST beep code, since it only beeps when the power is off, and stops as soon as i turn it back on. Google has been absolutely no help so far.

Any ideas?

Is this on a prebuild or custom case? If premade like HP, Dell, Gateway, or another brand review the information at the manufacturer's support site. For a custom build the make and model would help here while that could pointing right at the cpu or memory since going to turn off the system is when it is the warmest seeing a possible overheat or component failure warning.

ok um more infomation is need for example

It is a custom built computer.

OS: Windows XP Pro / Ubuntu 6.10
Mobo: Asus P4P800SE
Grapics Card: Nvidia GeForce 6800
Sound Card: SoundBlaster Audigy
HDD Size: 200GB
PSU: Not sure, labeled Premier Performance Pro, something about AMD?

Listen inside when it does it. See if you can tell if it coming from the motherboard/case speaker or from the Power Supply.

Asus boards tend to see Award or AMI usually Award-Phoenix bioses where a constant beeping or steady sound generally points at bad ram or a problem video card. On the older model there you will want to listen closely and try swapping one or both items to see if the problem persists.
