Ran the battery low again. Went to a Dr. appointment and started playing with it. Went home and hrs later down to about 40%. Charged back up and went to bed. Got up to check weather and phone was shut down and battery at 1%.
Any ideas why this would happen. I know i did something different. Ive done before but when it shuts down and recharge and turn back on its good to go until i start playing with it. I have no idea why or what to be looking at. When at home im always hooked up to att uverse router wireless. Just want to avoid happening again if i can.

The wireless being active will drain the battery. Shut wireless off until you need to use it. Also install an app called juice defender, its free and you can find it in the play store.

Ok ..... thanks. Never turned wireless off before though. I won't be able to receive calls.
I will download the juice defender.

im saying John, with wireless on and not using it i was always about 85% battery full the next day.
Can ya expand on this?

I won't be able to receive calls.

Yes you will. You can't receive calls through a router anyway.

All I can tell you is that when your wireless is on so that it can connect to your router then it will use the battery more.

Go into your settings under power and see what is using most of your battery. On my htc, you go settings, power, usage and it will tell you what apps are using what percentage of the battery usage.

Ok. i will check it. I am hooked up to the home when in range though. what ever that means. When away from home and out of range it connects to the satellite. Cell phones are neat i guess. Not used much. Can even access my tv cable box and watch tv, record and completely access the box. Am i going to watch tv on the cell phone, no, mostly for watching news if in an office or something.

Will have to have the grand kids look at it too.
Bet they know whats going on.

You will only get data connection when connected to your router. All cell calls will still come from your local cell provider tower, not your router.

That means your wireless on your phone is always on and when it detects your router in the area then it will automatically connect to it for data since usually your home based internet could be faster than the average 3g/4g speed.

Your 4G is probably what's sucking your battery down. I installed a widget on my phone that with a simple tap I can enable/disable my 4G.

I've also noticed sometimes my phone will get really hot and kill the battery from like 50 percent to 0 in about 20 minutes. If you feel it doing that just restart the phone and it will most likely stop.

everything is normal now after it turned off and restarting. Its related to something i did. I can easily go for 3 or 4 days without recharging if not using. But if charged at say 85% and sleeping for 7 or 8 hrs and at 3% makes me wonder what i did. just the same.
its ok now.
thanks

You also need to remember to kill your apps, otherwise they'll continue to run in the background and kill your battery.

Sounds more like one or more rogue apps, as Travis said lots of apps you open during the day continue to run in the background, most are intelligent to conserve battery life but some apps will just murder it. To be sure, you should uninstall apps you never use anymore, and give it a restart to see if that helps.
