Low FPS HD 6870?

In crysis (fully patched) i get fps in the mid 20s with 4XAA and 16AF, is that normal? It dips to 20 during battles and lags a bit :(. Is the card bad? BTW i have the latest drivers/software 12/13/11.

specs:

HD 6870
i5-2500
Samsung Spinpoint F3
8GB 1300mhz (DC) RAM

What resolution are you playing at?
 
IIRC, crysis eats into even the GTX580s quite heavily.

If overclocking helps, then most likely you are just at the end of what that card can do. If you are running maxxed out, try lowering it to medium or low, or lowering your resolution to 800*600 and see how your FPS does. If it improves, then it is not a card issue, but rather an unoptimized game issue. If it stays the same, you have a card issue.

Yeah guess I'm just at the end of the card's abilities, which is still awesome. Ocing gets me 30 fps average which is very playable. Thanks all for the replies. :)
 
its demanding because its unoptomized. It could be a lot less demanding if they would have worked a little more on it.

I remember reading about visual comparisons between bfbc2 and crysis and people saying it offers as similar visual experience but BFBC2 runs a whole lot better on my GTX260.

even BF3 (afaik) looks better and that runs a whole lot better than crysis (38.5 fps on crysis vs 53FPS on BF3, based on a quick look of the gtx 580 performance.).

Crysis is one of the most demanding games you can play at the moment. You would need at least a 6950 + to play it really smoothly.
