I have a really old computer and was thinking of picking up an emachine for around 298 bucks at walmart...problem is the power supply is only 240 watts..Has 1 pci express and a pci 16....is there a card that i can put in that's better than the nvidia 6150 onboard graphics. is installing one in an emachine a pain?

won't power it, all the cheapies want like 400 min i think, and e machines are crap unless you have to get it, i'm actually on one now, it'll work but not much more, but you can get a decent psu for about 50 with a mir making it like 30 i think, and a cheapy gpu for about 50-70 that'll work with it.

low power is like 400, that psu is the minimum amount that will allow the computer to functon properly, it just save their cheap buts some money, but i'm using something about the same as that now and as long as you know how to use nvidia system tools on the igpu then you'll be able to play some stuff, i can play crysis the original at ~30fps, also battlefield 2 and some others too, it works fine as long as you use really low res and basically disable the shaders.

well you could start by giving the other specs of the machine and we could see how much it could consume, had a friend with a gateway with a 350W psu and managed to stuff a 9800GT in it.. this was with a quad core phenom i 9500, 3 gigs of ram and two 500G harddrives.

Upgrade the PSU, then upgrade the rest, or just get a better system, however you probably won't be able to get much more on your budget

If the card has no power connector on the back, it cannot draw more than 75w from the slot. Even the stock PSU should cope with that, but I'd be upgrading it just to be safe anyway.
