Lowest CPU possible...

Hey, what's the lowest AMD X2 that would work with a 8800 GTS (maybe 8600 when they come) without causing a bottleneck??? Any input, thanks in advance... :)

I don't think it'd make that much of a difference with any X2 processor. They all should be fairly similar.

Tom's hardware only shows about a 10FPS difference between the 3800 and the 4800(highest and lowest s939 X2's on the list...)

It would be hard to say. IMO any X2 would be somewhat of a bottleneck. Just go with what you can afford, but I wouldnt get anything lower then the 3800+. Why not get a Core 2 Duo?

Thanks, Yeah, i thought before about chaning to an Intel build, but figured it was too much money to spend, (almost everything had to change, you know from AMD to Intel...) so i just want to get a better AMD than the Sempron, and yes it is socket 939. And i was taking in account buying a 8000 series in the future, but i want to get a CPU that would cause a bottleneck.. So a X2 is good then???

yea... but then also half of the C2D series would be a bottleneck.. so i think thats not really true. (the 4800+ is faster than the e6300, and iirc about equal to the e6400).

my current pc runs 2 7800GTX's in SLI.. this should be about equal to a 8800GTS... and I think its quite balanced tbh

True, but in general the X2 has more models which are lower-end then the Core 2 Duo's, with the exception of the 4800+ and up.
