M vs 4

I have a pentium 4 thats clocked at 2.00 gh. But its old. My mom has a labtop that has a pentium m at 1.4 gh. It runs faster than mine. Is this because of the design of the M? Could someone explain the differences? Just so I can gain a little more knowlage and brag about being smart? ;)

I dont think I read this in the 101.. but if its in there I'm sorry for posting.
 
The p-m was desided from the ground up to be giver good performance at lower power and lower clock speeds. It's built into the architecture, and can get quite techy.

P-m's are brilliant chips, but have a price tag to match :)
 
Just read up about them and they sound real cool. Maybe I'll get one for my next pc instead of an athlon 64. Do desktop motherboards have the right socket for them? I sure is cheaper than the 64. (I think) So which model (or the upcoming 780) would be equivelent to an Athlon 64 3700? would the price be cheaper?

They sure have some cool history if you read about them.

The laptop doesnt run faster. It may get work done faster but it runs slower ... just much more clock efficient.

Is this because of the design of the M?

They work for all the Banias that ive seen, not had a chance to dick around with Dothans (paired them up with P4C800)
