MAC addess or host ID

Hello all.

I am trying to download some free software but have it a bit of a stumbling block.

There is a registration form to fill in before they will issue a licence to run the software. The problem is that they are asking for a MAC address or host ID and the registration won't go any further without it.

I have tried using the 20 digit number found through Control panel, System, General. Reistered to steve lawson xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx but this is not working. The registration form bombs out saying you have entered an incorrect MAC address.

The example MAC address shown on the form as a alpha numerical combination, where my registration number is all numbers?

Am i looking in the right place?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Steve.

Did it say what format they want the MAC address in? Usually you will see it as 00:12:34:45:AB, etc. Some may see it as 00-12-34-56-AB, or maybe 0012-3445-ABCD, etc.

Hi Omega.

The example MAC address on the form reads 00-01-02-FB-60-18 or 000102FB6018

It also says if using Windows Platform use dos-box and runconfig/all. Unfortunately this doesn't mean much to me.

I hope this info is of some use to yourself or anybody else for that matter.

Hope you can help.

Steve.

Oh ok, I understand what you mean. I didn't read your first post over well enough, I assumed you knew how to get your MAC address. The number you have is not the MAC address, it's the serial number of your computer.

To get your MAC address, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Type: ipconfig/all

You may see more then one listing, but try to find the one that looks like this:

MAC_Address.jpg

The physical address (circled in red), is your MAC address.

Hi Omega.

Sorry for the late reply, i have only just had another look at the forum.

Your instructions were bang on mate.

Now that i have the MAC address i will have another go at downloading that software.

I only wish i had come on this forum earlier.

Thanks for your help it is very much appreciated.

Steve.
