Mac Pro Video Cards

I need to upgrade the video card in my mac pro from the pish poor 7300gt to something a little more useful.

I assume apple are still using cards that have different programming on them, so I can't just buy the latest card (unless I flash the chip of a £200 card and make an arse of it).

Does anyone know of any websites that specialize in shizzel like this? Im in the Uk so they'd have to ship everywhere on the cheap...

The only cards on the apple website are hugely overpriced (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512mb £220 and ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512mb £270)
I don't even know if they're any good.

I would ask on the mac forums but they get all up in arms about me wanting to play games

You can't just fit a regular nvidea or ati card to a mac - it won't work. Physcially they're the same but the info on the chips are different.

I don't want to buy from the official website, but i can't find any obvious stores online that sell mac video cards. Anyone know of any, or any links?
 
Macs use a more up to date firmware called EFI, which is intel's new standard, they also have different roms on their hardware. You can buy PC rom video cards and flash them with Mac roms. I have done it before, and it does work but you do it at your own risk.

Why do you need a better video card? Those video cards are only good for one thing, gaming. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
