Mac Vs Pc!!!!!!!!!!!! Please Help!

Hello, okay, I know alot of people get retarded when answering this question. But I really need to the know the difference. because I still can't tell why people say a mac is much stronger and more work oriented than a pc...

is this true?

I mean don't they both have the same Core2Duos installed just different OS's? And a couple diffirent programs, such as final cut and quark...

My quandry is the fact that I am a website designer, I don't have 4,000 dollors to go out and buy a mac pro... When I can get the same specs for 1,300 on new egg for the pc... But, people in my industry all seem to have one. And my girlfriend is a photographer and needs photoshop work done all the time.

I don't need the bells and whistles of a mac, such as the programs. I need to run AVID fast. I need to run FLASH 8, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Tutorials. All at the same time. Can I not get just as good a performance out of a pc vs's having to go buy a 4,000 mac?


Thats my question. Sorry its so long, but if anyones had the problem of someone saying, "Oooo ur not proffessional, or "worthy" if your not on a mac" Well I want this question answered once and for all!
 
Macs are good computers. They are high quality builds and all. I've not tried an intel based one so I don't know how computable they are with windows, but I assume they work as well as a standard PC. I have heard they are quite fast, just as some other PCs are faster than others.

Macs come with MacOS preloaded, but you can load Windows XP on the intel based ones...

It's really up to you. I've considered a Macintosh laptop, but I think I'm still going to stick with a PC desktop...

Oh, and I've found benchmarks that show MacOS runs a good bit slower than WindowsXP(comparable PC systems and Macs running MacOS and Windows) So, unless you are going to run XP on it, for the most part, you'd probably be better with a PC.
 
ok well i asm on one right now and macs arent more prone to alot of viruses so u can browse alot of sites with out geytting viruses

I am not a mac owner and i have never even used a mac.

but it seems to me that the whole MAC VS PC issue is just preference.. It's like saying which is better the Porsche Cayman S or the BMW M Coupe.. this is probably a bad example (if you don't know these cars) but if you do research on these cars it comes down to some ppl like the BMW, whilst others like the Porsche, oh and if you compare them on the track their performance is so close they cannot be compared that way.

you should be able to run those programs equally well on MAC VS PC so long as you don't go out buying a $500 buck e-machine...

just get high speed dual channel ram, core2duo, and a recent GPU.. and you should be all set to go weather it be PC or MAC... :D

Mac's are great. They're fairly rigid, you don't get as powerful components for your money, but you get a LOT of software and useful tools, a stable OS that is free of security issues for the most part, about the best built quality in the business, best service, etc.

I will likely be buying an Asus laptop later this spring, but my true choice if I had about a grand more to spend would easily, hands down be an Apple Macbook Pro with a C2D, 1GB, 120GB HDD, X1600 256MB, and a 15" screen with a full Applecare Protection Plan. They are worth the money, unless you want full upgradability and such. Plus, now you can run windows/linux as you desire.

I was reading on another forum today that said that when they installed XP onto the Apple C2D on the hard disk, the OS was BLAZING fast. :)

No, I don't have 2000 extra dollors to spend and NO i don't need extra security and no viruses when I know how to simply remove them in the 1st place...

I've heard some people say, that when they switched from a pc to mac it was like a dream come true. Well, I guess, i'm gonna have to wait on that dream.. I just cannot afford it right now for the things that I need.

It does sound like an interesting os tho. I hope that does not affect me working for a design firm in the future. My only other quandry is that alot of people want you to know macs as well and most are running on macs... Hmmmm, well i don't think things would be MUCH different, different keyboard shortcuts is all I can think of... lol...
