Mac with 4.5Gb of ram

Correct me if I am wrong, but am I missing something. My dad just bought some of those G5's with like 8GB in them.

EDIT: And, that guy is a major weirdo and I am pretty sure he has no clue what he is talking about.

yeah i think the G5s can take up to 8GB or some 16Gb:eek:

im not sure but i would love one with 4.5Gb:D
how would they ever make full use of 8Gb though:confused:

they can,The Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) ones can take 16Gb look here...

graph at bottom :)

No no, I know they can take up to 16GB of RAM.

I was saying "I don't think they do" use all 8GB or 16GB of RAM. But then again, Macs do have some very power hungry apps, so if you were crazy enough to use them all at once. I guess it would be nice to have 8GB, even if it still is overkill.

they use standard ram just like every other computer built.

I built a video editing rig for a guy some years ago, and he was buying it at the end of the year as a tax write off for his video production company. It was the latest G5 dual machine at the time (i think 2.0ghz) and I maxed out the RAM in it (8 gig) and installed a high end nvidia 6800 DDL video card (around $900) and hooked up dual 30" HD apple cinema displays (like $3500 ea). Set up a software RAID on his rig, and by the time I was done building it, the total cost was just under $15k.

G5s run dual channel so you have to install them in pairs. I couldn't watch that video, that guy got on my nerves.
