I'm trying to decide which computer would be better.

Some of these options include i5's with 2.66ghz turbo to 3.2 or an i7 with 1.9 or so turbo to 2.9.. wouldn't the i5 be better and much faster?

I used to play World of Warcraft, but got out of that because of the endless expansions that are sure to come.

I would use my computer mainly for school(college) and entertainment.
music, photos, maybe videos,

I like the windows OS, but maybe that Snow leopard wouldn't be too hard to get used to. I could always bootcamp it, but that's a hassle.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

I like the MacBook Pro's, I have a 15 inch i5 model as my work machine with 8 gigs of ram. Ultimately it comes down to the OS for me, both computers are fast and will have no issue handling what you listed above. I prefer OS X without question to windows, though Windows 7 has come a long way and isnt a bad OS either. Build quality of the MacBook Pro is second to none and is just a really well put together laptop. If it was me, I would go with the MacBook Pro, but you need to decide if its worth the higher price tag. I would suggest maybe trying out a mac, if a friend has one, and see how you like the OS.

thanks. But I don't understand the difference between i5 and i7. would an i5 with a faster speed be better than an i7? I just am unaware of how i5 and i7 compare with the ghz and the "turbo" and all that

the i7 is a faster chip, not sure how it all works myself, but stock, not over clocked the i7 is top end. Though you wont be disappointed with the i5 at all. For what you listed as doing, I would save your money and go with an i5 chip.

This article can help explain it all. You also have to note which OS is more ressource intensive. Mac OS is fairly light wait and runs great on my intel core 2 duo. On the other hand windows 7 (on my same rig) gets to be sluggish at times. Also note that the core i5 is dual core and the i7 is quad-core essentially means you have 4 brains vs. 2 trying to accomplish the same task. the speeds is how fast the CPU can deliver the information. all and all the i5 will suffice. This remains your choice.
