Macbook Pro compatibility with Windows XP using Bootcamp

I recently installed Windows XP on a second partition on Macbook Pro using Bootcamp.

Accidentally I installed a XP version without Service Pack 2 which bootcamp clearly states you need in order for windows XP to work.

Now, unable not only to reboot back into Mac OS X (I already tried booting using F8. All the options included only rebooting in Windows in various modes ...) but also I cannot format that partition since XP does not recognize Bootcamp ("Please insert a disc in drive D:"). I am simply unable to finish the Bootcamp installation! (That's what you call a neverending circle ...)

To sum it up ... I can't format without bootcamp ... I can't install bootcamp without installing XP with SP 2 ... And I can't install XP with SP without formatting!!! (Losing it here!)

Can anyone help me either format XP or reboot into Mac? I'd REALLY appreciate it guys!

Thanks in advance, yours truly

I cant help you with this but there was no need to post this three times. Someone will be along to help you if you give them a few.

Lisa,

Restart your mac holding down the option key, this will bring up the EFI boot loader menu and allow you to select between windows or OS X. If you want a boot loader to run every time you can google search refit, which is a specific EFI boot loader. many resources can be found on this at Mike Bombich's site, @ www.bombich.com

There is also a boot camp system tray icon in windows that allows you to do this, it will be in the bottom right hand side of your windows desktop while in windows.

In OS X, under system preferences > start up volume is where you flag it to boot off of windows or OS X.

Alternatives to running boot camp are available. You can always run a virtual machine which would never require you to reboot into either OS.

Some great mac specific resources you should check out are as follows:
