So i was deleting lots of files at once on my old unibody macbook and it froze(nothing new there), but 30 mins later it was still frozen so i held the power button down.

Now it wont boot, I just get the crossed out apple logo. I've tried pram reset and also booting in safe mode but it still gets stuck!

Im guessing i've messed up the hard drive, the only solution i can think of is removing the HD and trying to salvage my files before a fresh install of snow leopard, but my other computer is running windows so i dont think it will be compatible.

Any ideas or other tricks to make it boot?

Your best bet is to boot into recovery mode (Command + R), launch disk utility, and see if you can repair the disk and repair the permissions. At worse, you can plug in an external drive and clone them, then you can reinstall the OS and try to recover your files, as you only have a Windows machine.

Recovery mode isn't working either! I think I'll have to buy a new HD, install OS then then plug the old one in and find my files! Is there a SSD that will fit inside the old MacBook? Or shall I just get a replacement?

Cheers guys
