Major Cooling Problem, help!

Hey everybody. I am having a cooling problem. I have an ASUS P5GD1 mobo, with a LGA 775 socket P4 3.0GHz. At idle, my temps are running at 60 degrees Celcius on the CPU, using my ASUS Probe 2 to read the temps. So I am going to ask for a new CPU fan, and I was wondering if you have any suggestions. Do you know anything about the ARCTIC COOLING FREEZER7 ACFZ7? So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

the XP series coolers are almost the best under $50 IMO they are VERY good, completly worth it, and cheaper then the one you picked out :P

I dont know, I'm a review reading guy. But I will definitely look into the ones you showed me. Today I looked in my case, and my stock hs/f just barely fits in. To the sides are my chipset, and a bunch of resistors and stuff. So hopefully a new heatsink/fan will fit on my mobo! I tihnk I am asking for some 80mm case fans, and then later I will get a new cooler, but I am starting to look now. So thanks for the help, I'll check it out.

Before you purchase another heatsink and fan, have you cleaned out the dust in your cpu/videocard/case fans? Dust buildup can severely limit the effectiveness of all your fans, especially your cpu fan.

if you have 300$

dont go cheap, it may break in the cmoputer!

i say buy some liquid nitrogen and find a way to mount it over the processor!

I have the same motherboard & processor as you do i was also thinking of picking up : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835106061.

Idle temps for me are not as high as yours tho : 41C CPU.

39C for idle motherboard does seem a little high?

After reading "Motherboard Temps" i got some help. :D

Looks like i need some more case fans as i only have 1 exhaust fan with the 1 CPU fan.

So I wonder why Dety's is so much cooler than mine? And Dety, that's the exact hs/f I am looking at getting. Liuliuboy, I do have Arctic Silver, and it didnt change my temps at all....Well, for the first like few weeks it did, then they went right back up...I even followed the instructions exactly....I dont know what's going on.

Thanks a lot,
Derek

I had a similar problem with my PC, which was caused by poor case cooling. Upgraded the case to one with a side intake fan and better airflow design, and added a front intake and rear exhaust fan, and my temp dropped by 10 degrees C. If you don't have at least a couple of case fans in your system I would put some in before looking to upgrade your CPU cooler.

Yeah, I have one 80mm in the front sucking into the case, one on the side blowing in, and one in the back blowing out. Speaking of fans, will 120mm fit in my case? It has specially built places for 80mm, and I'm wonderring if 120mm will fit in there somehow. Are 120mm quieter than 80mm? It's an Ultra MS Blue Dragon case.

Thanks, Derek

Try removing the fan and heatsink, clean off the old paste. Then apply some new heatsink paste and replace the fan.

Hey everybod. Just so you know, I moved a fan to the back of my case, and had it pointing in, toward the CPU, and that brought down my temps by at least 12 degrees celcius. It's running idle at 48 celcius. So it was basically just a fan placement issue i guess. It's working great now.
