Major Hack - Keylogger maybe involved - HJT Log posted

Hi guys,

Mate had a big problem with a hacker tonight. A Guy supposedly added her on msn, told her her address, knew her msn andbebo password. Got onto her msn and changed everything.

This has all happened in one day. Theres either 2 possible causes, Its either a mate, or a keylogger.

Im ruling out the mate chance for now, because I've done some googling and found out that one of the 'hacker's mates lives around an hour away, meaning theres little chance for friend connectivity. N' most people wouldnt give a stranger 2/3 of one of their mates passwords, an the person involved hasn't rescently fallen out with anyone, which helps..

Next thought was a keylogger, easily get hotmail/msn/bebo passwords, and read home address's off any website.

IP has been reset on the system affected, and Spybot is about to be ran. Also an 'Unknown' to me spyware program has flagged up threats. (Haven't asked what program this is yet)

Not sure how much resetting the IP has helped, as Im unsure how advanced whatever's on the system is, whether its dishing out info to the hackers' system

Anyway... Got them to do a HJT Scan, as if their is a keylogger anywhere, I know theres a very good chance of HJT finding some process running with it.

Results coming shortly ...

Any tips.... ?

Yeah, ask him/her to not connect to the internet. Since you think that it's a keylogger, ask your mate to not enter any kind of sensitive information. All of the keystrokes are sent to the hacker as you know.

Your log reveals a backdoor trojan. These can severely compromise personal information which could lead to identity theft.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC may already be compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

If you wish to attempt to remove the infection without formatting, please do the following:

Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to C:\SDFix

You may wish to print out these instructions or copy them to a notepad document since you will be unable to access the Internet while in Safe Mode to read from this site.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts to load and select Safe Mode from the list).
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Alright thanks Ceewi. Their system is off for how, I have told them to reformat, as its the easiest thing for them to do as their not too computer literate.

Also got problem here now, this guy has somehow got my ip remotley through that backdoor on my friends computer.

Last VNC Session I had I experienced problems so opened All:o Router ports, (Now closed) (Was unnable to add a port session in my router firewall for the app)

Anyway, he did remote access throguh SOME program. Came back to my system, mouse was moving etc, task man open, talking to one of his friends who I added last night to find out who the guy was. Went into CMD and IIRC tryed something with netstat.

Anyway, now I have my IP reset an ports closed I have no longer had problems.

I had some REALLY imporant files on this system, Banks have been conacted and a card is being made redundant, I have gone through windows file properties and last accessed time shows months ago, so I tried bringing up the file today, an its also not responsive, however Modify date is.

I really need to find out if/when his file has been accessed in the last 24 hours, is there ANY program that will let me do this?

TIA

Reformatting with XP BTW.. To get Test Drive Unlimited runnign well, will be back on Vista once I get a drive RMA'd.

Just would like to know if theres any program to do with the post above^ Bank has said it will take up to 7 days to fully discard the CC.

I'm not aware of any way of more accurately reading the Last Accessed Date than the properties window, I would suspect that any program would simply read and display the same information.

Keep in mind that it is possible to change those dates (although if a hacker had only a short time on your PC, I doubt that would take the time and effort to do so).
