Ok I'm running Windows 2000Nt, I need to install a driver for my printer. I can't because I neeed ms-dos. How do I get ms-dos working on windows 2000Nt and where do I find it?

How old is this printer? If the printer itself was geared only for 9x-ME originally without driver support for NT/2000 it's time for a new one that is 2K/XP compatible. At this time all you can do is take a look at the manufacturer's support site to if NT/2K/XP drivers are available for that model. Another option is to locate a generic version for 2K.

Dos drivers themselves would be useless on a 2000 system. Dos is a Fat16 or Fat32 type partition while 2000 resides on an NTFS type and is incompatable. If it was a matter of trying to run an dos app you could have tried a program like DosBox. For drivers you need those designed for the OS you are running.

It's a Lexmark X83 and it has Windows 200Nt support. So far my scanner works, but I need to instal the printer driver. Here is the site LEXMARK.

By clicking on the driver shown there you are brought to the next page for the actual download link seen at http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-pe...frame=&fileID=440&searchLang=en&searchLang=en That should go on without problem.

If you have to simply go into the device manager and right click on the Lexmark listing there to choose the update driver option. You would do this if the download doesn't have it's own installer and then browse to where it was opened. You may want to choose the uninstall opttion first and restart the system to have Windows redetect a new device where you ignore that if the installer is included or browse for the needed driver then. Their tech support link is also seen there if you get stuck trying to get the update to go on. That usually takes a few days to see any response however. But that is the driver to go with.
