Major internet problem

I have the modem and router connected to my desktop, and I can't go onto the computer using it. I have tried various browsers, and it still doesn't work. However when I diagnosis the problem using IE, it says I'm not connected to the internet. I have tried turning off the power.

However, I can connect to the router and I'm going on the internet right now using it. What is the problem? I remember a few days ago my dad tried updating using Windows Update, and it says it didn't work or something and I had to uninstall the update. (I think it was updating to SP3) What do I do? Quick help me CF members!
 
I think what he is saying that, he is having problems connecting to the internet on that computer, correct KJS???
 
Cohen's right. I talked to the person on the phone for many many hours, and they concluded it is my computer. I'm going to try to do a System Restore back to a previous time, and if that doesn't work I'm going to use the System Recovery/Restore disc's that I burned when I got my VAIO.

Questions:

1. Will I lose my data (I partitioned the drive, and I have all my data saved to the D Drive) if I use the System Recovery/Restore disc's? I just know it will delete everything in C.
