Major Video Card Problem...

I just purchased the VisionTek X1550 agp8x card. (For playing a little Wow) Only problem is, once i insert the card into the slot & hook everything up..i get nothing.

I turn on the pc and the monitor is black, the cpu is running...but all i can hear are short beeps (exactly like a heart rate monitor in a hospital)...guys im lost. : /
 
Plug the VGA cord back into the Integrated D-sub, if you have one, go into the BIOS and disable onboard video. The constant beeping is a beep code, but i'm not sure what it means.
 
So i should install the card again, plug the blue cable into the connector in the back...then where exactly in BIOS do i need to go?

And will messing around with settings in BIOS screw up my computer?..like say i turn off the onboard memory and then need to turn it back on in case this process doesnt work.
 
I just checked the requirments and it says the card needs 280+ power supply, mine is only 250. Could this be the problem?
 
Hello mothjer and welcome to the forum, The beeping is indicating there is a problem with the card and the PC your trying to install it in... Yes its important that the card has the recommended PSU wattage for it to function properly.
I would try and get hold of a more powerful PSU.
 
I uninstalled the old Nvidia drivers and took out the old Nvidia card, windows was big and blocky. I know thats normal...now what the troubleshooting guide said was to go into my BIOS and disable the onboard video...that way the new card could take affect.

Anyone know where exactly in BIOS to look for the onboard video..because if the computer video is functioning after the uninstall of my previous Nvidia..then that means there has to be onboard video working to keep the cpu running at the lowest resolution to function.
 
Could be in the Integrated Peripheral if not, in Standard Settings there might be a Video Display Type-set to settings. Plus your P/S only being 250W is not helping!

Well do you think it's the power supply? Technically the box "recommends" 280+..so 250 shouldn't unable the entire thing from functioning...

I went into device manager and disabled the Nvidia display adapter, but still nothing. Im running a Dell 4550, so if anyone is familiar with that BIOS system i would love to know exactly where to disable the onboard video.
