Make an ISO into a bootable disk?

I have DSL (darn small linux) in an iso file. I would like to make it a bootable CD, but I can't figure it out. I have Sonic for burning, and the "make CD bootable" option doesn't seem to work. I've tried it twice so far. Do I need an alternate program? Could you point me to a good free one? Thanks.
 
I tried Deep Burner there on GPart and it refused to boot at all. Upon using the bootable option in Roxio I suddenly found a working disk ready for Linux. Deap Burner doesn't support dvd burning at all. Just to let you know in case the iso image is over the some 712-714mb max on a cd-r.
 
I got a few including ubuntu I'd like to get running. On the old build I ran ran a dual OSed second drive with the eventual XP/Fedora Core 4 setup. Now I having some fun getting the latest Zenwalker and Zenlive running after several tries at burning the isos.
 
To burn an bootable iso file to disk you will need to extract the files out of the iso and burn to disk, or burn the iso as an image, if you cannot get an option to burn an image in sonic what you can do is.


Download Daemon tools, Install the program and mount your iso file on an emulated drive that Daemon will create for you.

Go into this drive and you will see all the files that are inside the ISO.

Copy these files to some part of your drive, (these are like the extracted files), and then burn them to disk.

What the problem probably was, was that as you burnt the ISO to disk it was burning the files as compressed files, therefore not allowing your system to boot from them.

If you put these extracted files onto disk (Or burn the ISO as an image) your system will then be able to see inside the ISO, and get to the extracted files, then it will know what part to boot from and will allow setup to run:)
 
I burned the cd-rs here as bootable disks with the isos intact and still see the "missing operating system" error. Yet the same software and option has burnt other distros without problems. From the information I was given on a Linux forum the same error seen was corrected by installing Lilo a Linux boot loader to the master boot record. That was done to a floppy with Gag instead that can load any OS. Windows can't see files in a Linux iso.
 
I use BurnOnCD/DVD for burning in Windows.
For CDs, you don't have to burn them as "Bootable."
There are certain files on a CD that tell the BIOS if they are bootable or not. It's really what is burned to the CD, not how.

The only way I can think that you would get an "OS not found" error is if your CD drive is the last boot device and you don't have a CD in the drive or the CD itself isn't bootable.

And remember: An ISO file is an EXACT image of a disk.
 
You would be wrong on that one since the only boot device enabled is the cd rom. The missing OS error is proceeded by the "1 HDa" right above that. That was seen on the live as well as Zenwalker. But I would expect it on Zenwalker due to the need for a Linux boot loader installed to run it from the drive or mount it.

(Gee I just downloaded and installed BurnOnCDDVD and burned another copy of Zenlive. I can't keep doing this since my desktop is starting to get overloaded. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3705/loadeddesktopzh2.jpg :eek: !)


UPDATE: The extra desktop icon was worth the effort there when the new copy of Zenlive suddenly "came to life"! But another copy of the Zenwalk iso was needed due alerts during the first success at getting the installer going. Great reference! BurnOnCD/DVD worked perfectly, I was able to run DSL just fine. It just won't detect my mouse, I use an old analog one cause my USB broke.
 
I've always found RecordNow! to be more or less useless.
Most of the time, I end up getting some startge burn error that can't be fixed (even if you upgrade).
But I still have to say, I've never gotten as OS Not Found error before. Even when I use Sonic products.
DeepBurner was the one I have the most problems with, though. It never worked.
 
My opinion on Deep Burner is that it is good for backing up files but nowhere near what is needed to burn iso images to either cd-r or dvd-r disks. With the BurnOn free version Zenlive finally loaded fully and Zenwalk was installed after the installer offered cfdisk or fdisk. Cfdisk only saw the XP host drive while the fdisk formatted the root and swap partitions.

The installer then went to work installing the distro. The only thing left now is installing either Lilo or Grub in order for Gag to ba able to that from the second drive or XP on the primary. Zenlive has less options and programs then the Knoppix Live for cd distro. The problem with the live versions is getting them to connect online.
