Make small clips out of Movies and join them? SOFTWARE

Hello,

while watching some movie at PC, i want to cut some scene out of it and save as a video clip. Then want to join scenes from various movies (they have different data stream and sizes....) into bigger movie collage.

How to please do this the most simplest way and possible free way? thx for tuts.

Windows Movie Maker will do this if it has the right format like one of these:
.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv

I spent a lot of money on movie editing programs, but to be honest the easiest and safest way is Windows Movie Maker
