make the noise stop!!!

well we have a relatively new dimension 4700 pt4 w/ht 512mb RAM(2x256) 80 gb hd running xp. and over the past few day's noise has been coming from the tower. it grows to a pretty decent volume and def appears to be coming from the hard drive. waht are some of the possible causes, and what actions should i take to take care of this issue.
 
If it's from the harddrive, it's probably failing. However, I feel it's simply the fans giving out. I would pop the case open and listen to the fans to try and find out which is making noise. You could even use your finger(CAREFULLY) and slow the fans down to see if they quiet up a bit...
 
ive seen many dells do this. my parents bought their dell 2350, and first month, the harddrive started making a weird noise(failing i presume), mine sometimes makes a strange noise, i could be wrong, but maybe it was a defective machine. i dunno, even the dell at my work does it, i dont trust dell anymore, thats why im custom building one now. if it is the harddrive, buy a new one because my parents did that, and theirs is running fine, i even switched mine out and it fixed the problem, you can get an 80gig seagate for like 80 bucks.
