making 16:9 ration on 4:3 monitor?

i switched my resolution over to 1280x720 and everything's distorted (understandably) but i was wondering how much i have to squish down the v-size to make it a 16:9 picture

You just need to lower the v-size until it doesn't look distorted anymore, it's hard to say for sure since it varies with each monitor.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you trying to have a 16:9 aspect ratio on a 4:3 monitor?
