Making a copy of a DVD

I have no clue what I'm doing so bear with me. How do I make a copy of a DVD? I have WIN DVD Creator software and Sonic Record Now software on my computer (came bundled when I purchased the computer).

I've tried to figure out how to use each of these programs by reviewing their respective help menus but I somehow just don't get it. Each time I attempt to copy the DVD I get nowhere.

Don't I have to first copy the DVD onto my hard drive and then just duplicate it from there using one of the programs?

By the way, this is not a copyrighted DVD (it's a collection of old 8mm/Super8 films).

Any help would be appreciated. I'm doing this for a friend's cousin. And, as I said, I've no clue what I'm doing!

Thanks.

you can try using infrarecoder

http://infrarecorder.org/

this will allow you to copy on the fly, if for what ever reason that doesnt work use img burn to get a disc image (from the disk you wish to copy)

http://www.imgburn.com/

then burn the image once it is made using the same program.

to so this on the title screen of imgburn select "create image file from disc"
choose the location and once finished, it may take a while, choose (in the same program) write image to disc.

btw are you trying to convert files so they play on a dvd player?

Innercx, thanks for the info. I'll give those a try. The copied DVD will be played on a DVD player (hope I'm explaining that correctly). Basically I just want to copy this DVD which was done for my friend. I'm thinking I should use archive quality for the copy as this is stuff from the 50s and 60s and the film is not going to last much longer. That's the main reason for wanting to do this.

Thanks again for the info.
