Making fans less noisy

My case fans are creating an amazing amount of noise, and my question is: Is there any way I can make them less noisy? ...I was thinking about somehow making silent fan mounts, is this even possible?

Usually when your fans start getting loud the bearings are at fault. Generally, you just replace the fan at this point but there are oils you can get to re-lubricate the bearings to make them quieter. If you peel the sticker back on the central part of the fan you can see either the bearings or a cap. If it's capped remove it. You can use pretty much any oil (blue label 3-in-1 works well) but don't fill the well up completely, just a bit in there should be enough. You'll want to recover the hole with the sticker or some tape.

Thanks for the tips, I think I'll do what Cromewell advised me, and I am not buying new fans cause these are new ones....

If they are new than what he suggested won't do anything. What he said was for old fans with worn out bearings making noise.

The only thing you can do is buy a fan controller and turn them down, otherwise the cooler master R4's are your best replacement option. It's only $15 for 4 fans shipped to your door.

You can't do anything to quiet a loud fan design besides turn the RPM's down VIA a fan controller.

If you're using metal screws to mount them it may cause it to vibrate more. Youc can try rubber mounting that makes it quieter. Not sure where you could find them since they normally come with the fans. Fan controller is the other option.

Or headphones with music playing. :D

*Like*

Is there any way I can make them instead of buying them? (They're like $5/4 pieces and I have 5 fans)

Just go waste your time, money, and energy already and get it over with, and then buy the fans I suggested to get rid of the noise.

Okay, first of all it's called gaining experience not wasting time, and second of all I think I'll try to make them anyways :D

Sure, go gain your experience on how to waste your time and effort and then the knowledge you will gain will be to listen to the people that have been there done that.

Okay, I cut out a hole for a window in my case using a screwdriver and a hacksaw even though everyone told me that it's impossible... I feel pretty confident that I can do this and not be one of these people that can't

Isn't somebody just a bright ray full of sunshine....

I still think a Fan Controller is a good choice. I never really thought much of them but now that I have one (albeit it's just a little switch on my case) I can't believe I never had one before. Finding a cheap one may be tough though. But the ability to control your speeds as well as the light levels is great when you leave your computer on overnight or just want it to be super quiet.

Okay, so decreasing the speed will make the fans less noisy, but can't I just do it with speed fan software?

If they're plugged directly in the motherboard maybe but I doubt they all are, if any. They're probably plugged directly into the PSU with a molex connector. Whenever the PSU turns on they automatically run at full speed.

Looks like the case came w/1 fan. So depends on what fans you added and how many headers you have. Fans have to be 3 wire to mb, to control w/software.

Yeah some of them are... but my mobo can only take up to 3 so yeah.. but I guess I can do the de-volting trick...

If they are 3 pin fans you cannot control them on the motherboard anyway. Only 4 pin fans are PWM and can be controlled.

So once again we are down to my original post, change fans or get a fan controller.

I can control the ones connected to the motherboard cause I have already tried it, and they are three pin ones so yeah...
