Malicious Software Removal Tool

I have an old PC that has not been used in some time. I was checking it out for someone. I cleaned it up and was letting it update. All updates are done with the exception of that nightmare (Malicious Software Removal Tool). I know it comes once a month and runs once in the background. I was even told it deletes itself after it runs. Here is my issue: It will download and install just fine, but it comes right back if I run a check for updates immediately after install or reboot the PC. I was wondering what anyone might know about this curse.

It's probably not running for some reason. Check out the sticky and run the things in there and post back. It may have some nasties on it.

Is it for the same month? Do the update manually and if it fails to install it will tell you but its crap software anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I decided to turn off automatic updates since its up to date on all updates available. It has XP on it. They are going to use it for the little ones and keep them off their PC. Thanks for your help.
